Reclaimed Wood Story
Our close friend recently moved into one of the first houses built in Oakland, NJ. The farmhouse was completed 8 years after Oakland was founded (in 1902), and while beautiful and old-world charming, it needed a few renovations. He quickly tore down one wall to make a room bigger, tossing its wood treasures in a pile destined for the dumpster. To make his clean up easier, we politely asked for/stole all the discarded structural wood beams. These massive 106-year-old rough cut beams have authentic wear and great rustic character!
With a limited amount of wood, we decided to make a trestle-style farm table with minimal refinishing (table tops need to be smooth with no splinters.) What a great way to keep a local piece of history alive!
